Curtis Grimes - Live From the Parish (2012)

Curtis Grimes is a 23 year old singer/songwriter from Upshur County who is pursuing his dream in the Texas Country Music scene. Grimes was an academic scholar and athlete at Harmony High School where he was an All-State pitcher and member of the 2003 state qualifying baseball team. Following graduation he accepted academic and baseball scholarships to Centenary College in Shreveport, Louisiana. After a break up with his then fiancé, it was here that he started playing guitar and developed an interest in songwriting. One day he went to a pawn shop, purchased a used Dean guitar, and taught himself to play. Grimes then "headed down 35” with plans of finishing his degree at Texas State University in San Marcos. While there he fell under the influence of the Texas Country music scene. With legendary venues so close, he was able to follow the Texas Country artists he looked up to. After playing for friends and relatives at gatherings and parties, Grimes was hooked by the entertainment bug. In the summer of 2007 he started playing acoustic shows at a couple of small venues for fraternity events and small bars. He then met fiddle player Jerry Reynolds and the two hit it off both as musicians and friends, landing multiple gigs at bigger events and venues. His current band consists of bass player Ryan Sullivan, a graduate of Berkley College of Music, lead guitarist Nick Gardner who also attended Berkley, and drummer James Richardson, a music major at the University of Texas. Things definitely picked up for Grimes after he won the Austin leg of Kenny Chesney’s "The Next Big Star” contest, getting the opportunity to open for Chesney at the Frank Erwin Center during his Poets and Pirates tour. In their first year as a full band, they have also shared the stage with Lee Ann Rimes, Jack Ingram, Cory Morrow, Aaron Watson, and Doug Stone to name a few. Grimes is now a part of a new wave of Texas Country where his influences are the headliners of today. Grimes has extended his fan base as a regular fixture on Austin’s renowned 6th Street scene and performed at venues such as Stubb’s, Midnight Rodeo, Antone’s, Blind Pig, Peckerheads, Maggie Mae’s and many others. As he expands his sphere with performances around the state of Texas and Oklahoma, Grimes and his band definitely have things looking up.
